Formation of social capital and meta-analysis of factors affecting it
This paper examines the concept and theories of social capital formation and, using a meta-analysis approach, reviews several studies on social capital conducted in Iran. The findings indicate that variables such as age, education, marital status, employment, and income—except in the case of trust—have a direct relationship with other components of social capital, including awareness and attention to public affairs, trust, and formal and informal participation. Moreover, men play a greater role than women in awareness of and attention to public affairs and formal participation, while women participate more in informal activities. No gender differences were observed in the level of trust.
